Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of comprehension strategies in reading material in developing reading comprehension ability among second-year intermediate students, and it adopted experimental methods to achieve the research objectives and conduct the full experiment. In the 2023-2024 semester, the researcher deliberately chose Al-Siddiqa Secondary School for Boys to implement the experiment. The research sample was determined to be (82) students, and the researcher excluded the failing students, i.e. (4) students. From the sample, there were (3) students from the control group and one student from the experimental group, so the sample size became (78) students, noting that the exceptions were based on the experimental results only. The researcher conducted statistical equality between the two study groups on the following variables (students’ grades in Arabic language subjects in the previous year, chronological age, and mother’s and father’s grade levels). The researcher used a top-down experimental design. In the field of partially controlled experimental design, the researcher began implementing the experiment on Sunday (10/23/2023), He continued to teach the two groups of students for a full semester, and the experiment ended on Thursday (11/1/2024).

After completing the experiment, a T-test was conducted on two independent samples for statistical analysis, and the results showed that the students in the experimental group who used comprehension strategies to learn reading questions were better than the students in the control group who used comprehension strategies. To learn reading questions. Developing reading comprehension skills by reading about the same topic in the usual way.
