The Effect of Using Self-Teaching Method Supported by Pictorial Modeling on Learning the Most Important Skills in Basketball An Experimental Study on a Sample of Fourth Year Preparatory Students

The study aimed to identify the effect of using the self-teaching method supported by pictorial modeling on learning the most important skills in Basketball among fourth grade preparatory students.The experimental research method was adopted in the study. The population of the study consisted of (39) students who were divided into (9) students for conducting the pilot experiments, and (30) students as a main sample of the study. The homogeneity of the sample of the study was confirmed. The use of the self-teaching method supported by pictorial modeling was depended as a training programme for students for the purpose of learning the most important skills in basketball (low dribble – chest handling-scoring and shooting). The pilot experiment was conducted on a sample of (9) students to ensure the validity of the tools and the validity of their adoption, and then the pre-study experiments were conducted on a sample of (30) students and the results extracted from them were collected. Then, the post-study experiment was conducted on the same sample, and the T-test for dependent samples, and the one-way analysis of variance test were used to analyze the data. The results, the analysis and discussion of the pre and post- study test of the study groups enables the researcher to conclude the following:a. The effectiveness of the self-teaching method in learning the primitive skill of basketball in close percentages.b. The pictorial modeling group was the best one.c. The result showed the method of self-teaching in learning the primitive skill of basketball.In conclusion, the study presented a set of recommendations, the most important of which are:a. Getting benefit from the self-teaching method of learning to support pictorial modeling in practice within the education curriculum.b. Using the method of self-teaching supported by pictorial modeling in learning the primitive skills of basketball (low dribble, chest passing, scoring from jumping, peaceful scoring).
