Abstract

After Croatia joined the Yugoslav federation, it found that this union was not based on well-studied foundations by the united parties, and therefore this union faced several problems, including the inequality between the United States in terms of development and wealth, as well as the supremacy of the Serbs over other countries, Serbia emerged as the dominant state in the political and economic corps in the former Socialist Republic of Yugoslavia, as it controlled the money coming from Croatia and Slovenia, which are among the richest republics of Yugoslavia, as well as the acquisition of all high positions in the state for the benefit of the Serbs, in addition to the development of national thought in Europe, Accordingly, Croatia found that it was necessary to withdraw and declare its independence from this union, which did not satisfy them with anything of development and justice. Several other factors helped to declare this independence, including the collapse of the Soviet Union as well as Croatia's knowledge of the Serbs' intentions towards its desire to realize the Greater Serbia project, as well as the importance of The religious side and its role in igniting this conflict and declaring the Croatian War of Independence in 1990.Then the national and religious feeling latent in the hearts of the peoples of Yugoslavia appeared, and the wars of independence in Yugoslavia, including the Croatian ones, began to appear on the eve of the Communist disintegration. It was the Serbian project, which aims to expand its lands to the west and north, and includes areas in Bosnia, Croatia and Vovodina that were inhabited by many Serbs, as well as the Adriatic coast, meaning that it wants to live almost as it was in the former Serbian kingdom, which the Serbs call the Greater Serbia project It is one of the reasons why Croatia declared its independence because of its desire to get rid of Serbian hegemony.
