Abstract

The study aimed to identify the causes of addiction among school students, and to identify the effects of addiction, stimulants and psychotropic substances on school students. To achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher used the descriptive approach, and the research was limited to the schools of Al-Hamdaniya district for the academic year 2232_2002. The questionnaire was prepared by the researcher on the research sample after verifying its validity and reliability. The scale was applied to a sample of (240 male and female students), with (140 male and (100 female) students. The results showed that difficult economic living conditions and family problems are among the factors that drive students to addiction, as well as browsing websites continuously and relying on it in all life matters. And that drinking alcohol, cigarettes, stimulants, and using the phone and the Internet excessively has an impact on health and poor students’ ability to study and excel. The researcher reached a number of conclusions and made appropriate recommendations and proposals. The study dealt with: addiction, stimulants, and psychotropic substances.

Difficult economic conditions and family problems are factors that push students towards addiction. Excessive use of the phone and the Internet has an impact on health and weakens students' ability to study and excel. Alcohol, stimulants and narcotic drugs cause physical, psychological, social and economic risks and problems for the individual, which require combined local and international efforts to address them.
