Women's political, social and economic empowerment and gender equality in Africa as a model

Violent conflicts are known to have a disproportionate impact on women and girls, exacerbating pre-existing gender inequalities and discrimination. Women are also effective factors in bringing peace to armed conflicts, but their roles as political players and agents of change and peace have not been sufficiently recognized. Acknowledging women's different understandings, experiences and potential and integrating these into all aspects of UN peacekeeping operations is essential to the success of UN peacekeeping efforts.
The importance of empowering women to lead and participate effectively in conflict prevention and resolution, confront the effects of sexual violence, encourage the development and use of measures and standards to monitor delegated powers towards women, peace and security, train and build the necessary capabilities to achieve gender equality and empower women, and emphasize integration with civil society. More comprehensively and with greater understanding of gender conflict dynamics, implementing the Women, Peace, Security and Empowerment priorities is a political commitment within the Secretary-General's initiative that reaffirms that the full, equal and meaningful participation of women in peace processes and in political solutions is essential for the success of women's role
