Abstract

The research aims to study examples of narrative achievement in a time period in which the storyteller shed light on the impact of war and political and social conflict on the country and its people, such as being forcibly uprooted from the motherland/homeland and living in the embrace of alienation, fear, loss and free death, and lack of control over the security situation, etc. The reason for the loss of people's lives and property, so many words referencing war and its remnants, words of violence, confiscation of human will, psychological crisis, alienation and nostalgia. On the social side, we find words that monitor social traditions and criticize living reality, such as the deprivation of women’s rights and the confiscation of children’s right to choose their life path. Therefore, the storyteller intended to interrogate the past and present and identify some of its features, in order to reflect through it symbolic and suggestive connotations through his narrative language. The study shows that words have symbols that have a critical significance for the living reality, politically and socially. The research adopted the historical and analytical method in tracking events, interrogating words, and analyzing their connotations and symbols. The symbol had a prominent presence in the context of Iraqi storytelling, and its sources varied between silent and spoken nature to express in an artistic and aesthetic way the various aspects of life with a critical dimension, with what it carries of ambiguity and suggestion, to delve into the depths of society and express its shortcomings.
