Quality of life and its relationship to the guidance needs of middle school students

Abstract

The research aims to identify the level of quality of life and its relationship to the counseling needs of middle school students according to the gender variable (male and female), and its two academic branches (scientific/literary). The descriptive approach was adopted, and the research sample consisted of (60) male and female students from the fifth grades. The researcher prepared a quality of life scale (30) items, and adopted the Guidance Needs Scale (Al-Jubouri, 2011), which has a number of items (40). The two scales were applied after collecting the data and processing it using statistical methods.

The researcher reached the following most important results:

  • The level of quality of life is high among students.
  • Their level of guidance needs is high.
  • There is a correlation between quality of life and guidance needs among students in general.
  • There is a correlation between quality of life and guidance needs among students according to the gender variable (male and female). Recommendations:
  • - Holding periodic training courses for educational counselors by (the Ministry of Education and its directorates), to provide educational counselors with the necessary educational counseling competencies to enable them to meet the counseling needs of their students.
  • Providing school libraries with books on psychological and educational counseling that provide counselors with the most accurate information about educational counseling to develop their skills and abilities, and meet their various counseling needs.
  • Reducing stressful circumstances on students, whether from the family or society, and circumstances.
