Abstract

The current research deals with the definition of demolition and construction in modern sculpture (Giacometti as a model). The research contains four chapters. The first chapter is concerned with the methodological framework of the research which is represented by the research problem that deals with shedding light on what is demolition and construction in modern sculpture (Giacometti as a model). Which had a great impact on the development that took place in art in terms of demolition and construction in the form. Which the work of (Giacometti) embodied in his artistic achievements. By departing from formal stereotypes to abstraction and reduction, by employing human and animal forms and paying to technical treatments, the first chapter also contained the goal of the research, which is: to define demolition and construction in modern sculpture(Giacometti as a model). As for the limits of research, the current study has determined his sculptural works in the exhibition halls of the Museum of Modern Art - New York - USA, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art - Switzerland and for the period between (1930-1962). The second chapter ,including.the most important indicators that resulted from the theoretical framework, where the first topic dealt with (the philosophical concept of demolition and construction). The second topic dealt with (modern European art) and the third topic deals with (works Sculptural giacometti between reality and fiction) While the third chapter included the research procedures that included the research community and its specimen, the research methodology, the research tool, and the analysis of the research samples, which numbered (5), a sculptural work. The fourth chapter of the research included the results of the research and its conclusions, recommendations and proposals, and the researchers reached a number of results, including:1 - The sculptor relied mostly in his sculptures on the manipulation of the elements of art (texture, space, line, mass), thus investigating the method of reduction in the human form and the animal form.2- The interaction between demolition and construction in form and content, as well as the manipulation of the material and the technology adopted in a work, which gives it the characteristic of reduction.As for the conclusions, the researchers came to a group of the most important of them: Demolition and construction is an artistic method that relies on simplification and reduction in the arts of modernity.As for the recommendations, the researchers reached a group of the most important ones: Providing the library of the College of Mixed Education / Department of Art Education. With books, sources, letters and treatises dealing with (shorthand) in the plastic arts and sculpture in particular.As for the proposals, the researchers has reached a group of the most important of them: The effect of the artistic style of the sculptor Giacometti on postmodern sculpture.It was followed by a list of sources and annexes, and then a summary of the research in English
