Abstract

The research revolves around the exploration of a modernist poetic trend, which we have termed "Poetry of Meaning." This trend emerged as a result of the rapid advancements in poetry and their succession since the mid-twentieth century. These advancements led to a dispersion of textual structure in poetry, taking it far from the essence and beauty of poetry, leading to excessive abstraction, coding, and misuse of expressive techniques through imitation and repetition. Moreover, the inadequacy of these techniques and their inability to withstand external world developments pushed them into the past, prompting the search for new techniques or a re-focus on fundamental techniques that fulfill the primary purpose of poetry.

The research included the following questions:

- Assuming the existence of a poetic modernity capable of accommodating contemporary civilization, how would that be achieved?

- What is meant by Poetry of Meaning?

- Where do we perceive aspects of seriousness in this poetic genre?

- In which expressive forms can Poetry of Meaning be achieved?

The hypothetical answers were as follows:

- It is natural to witness poetic modernity in the present era due to the evolution of life, the rapid transformation of events, and changes in circumstances. This is reflected in the poet's thoughts, vision of things, and perceptions of life and events. Poetry of Meaning is a product of visionary intellectual thought.

- Poetry of Meaning can be defined as primarily symbolic expression, crafted in a poetic form dictated by its meaning, with its own rhythmic arrangement in a unified, symbolic structure suggesting holistic meanings that occupy the recipient's mind without focusing on the form in which they appear. It replaces suggestive imagery with visual imagery, or may combine both, presenting visual images and suggesting poetic images that invite reflection and contemplation, leading you to a world of noble meanings with lofty human values, which the external world lacks and is simultaneously dispensable.

- One of the prominent features of seriousness in Poetry of Meaning is the emphasis on image references more than the focus on their visuality. The overall unity in textual and thematic structure, combining the poet's subjectivity and the objectivity of the idea, presents an indirect discourse through hidden meanings. Poetry of Meaning, in our opinion, aligns with the aspirations of post-modernity in terms of the dissolution of all centralities, as literary trends (classical, romantic, symbolic, and realistic) intersect within it, as Poetry of Meaning incorporates all these trends.

- Since Poetry of Meaning encapsulates the mystical meanings of direct meaning, its forms necessitate what gives the text strength in performing its artistic function. Therefore, we find it in vertical form, poetic activation, as well as prose form. It may also call for other forms.
