Amina bint Wahb through the book “Al-Muntazam fi Tarikh al-Muluk wa al-Umam” by Ibn al-Jawzi
Keywords:
Amna, mother of the Prophet, Al-Mutazim, Ibn Al-JawziAbstract
The study dealt in the first section with her name, lineage, brothers, uncles, and religion. The second section dealt with her marriage to Abdullah bin Abdul Muttalib, Abdullah’s death, and her eulogy for her husband. The study also dealt in the third section with her pregnancy with Muhammad (may God bless him and grant him peace) and his birth. Then the research touched on the incidents and miracles on the night of her birth, her life with the Prophet (may God bless him and grant him peace), and then her death. Sources differed in mentioning Amina’s religion, some of which mentioned that she was a polytheist, some of which mentioned that she was of the Hanafi faith, and some of which mentioned that she was from the people of the period. Many historical sources mentioned stories that the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) revived his parents and they believed in him, which are stories that are not true. Among the important results of the research, the researcher concluded that Amina bint Wahb and his wife Abdullah were of the Hanafi faith, as evidenced by the poetic verses that Amina said about the incident of her husband’s death and her son Muhammad (peace be upon him) praising him before her death, as well as the qualities of Abdullah and his rejection of adultery and the forbidden when the Khath’ami woman presented herself to him, which are qualities of the Hanafi faith. The historian Ibn al-Jawzi neglected many events when he discussed the biography of Amina bint Wahb, especially her religion. Ibn al-Jawzi relied heavily on brevity when talking about Amina bint Wahb and her life with his wife, especially when mentioning her death. Many miracles were reported when Amina gave birth to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which made the researcher doubt whether she was mentioned or neglected. The study also concluded that Ibn al-Jawzi did not rely on chronological order when mentioning Amina bint Wahb.
