Abstract

The research aims to reveal some of the efforts of Imam Abu al-Hasan Nur al-Din Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hadi al-Sindi (d. 1138 AH) in the field of showing the alternation between formulas through his explanations of the books of hadith, and I have chosen multiple examples of this.

The research began with a brief definition of the personality of Sindi and his writings, then dealt with the issues that occurred by alternation between different formulas, and concluded the research with a conclusion that showed the most prominent findings. The scientific status and prestigious position that distinguished Al-Sindi is that he combined the sciences of language and the sciences of Hadith, and the combination of them enabled him to explain several books on the Noble Prophetic Hadith, such as the Six Books and Musnad of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal. His explanations of these books contained the sciences of language in general and the science of morphology in particular. Al-Sindi’s lack of attention to mentioning evidence, and few evidences were mentioned in his explanations of the books of Hadith, and his explanations were devoid of mentioning evidence of poetry with regard to the morphological aspect. Al-Sindi did not adhere to a specific morphological doctrine in his instructions, but rather he preferred what he saw as appropriate to the rule and stronger for the argument. The scientific value and importance of Al-Sindi’s six commentary books, which are explanations concerned with explaining the hadiths of the Prophet - may God bless him and grant him peace - and extracting the sciences of language from them. The hadiths of the Messenger - may God bless him and grant him peace - constitute a fertile field for studying the language in its various aspects, as they contain various morphological models.
