The Khans (inns) in Islamic architecture are characterized by unity of plans in spite of difference in architecture, period of time in which it constructed, and the geographical position .The functional side is very important in the khan planning as they are used to serve the travelers. The Khans are of two types inner Kans and outer ones. Khans were built inside the cities, or built near the entrance of the city or on the ways that lead to other cities. Many wealthy people constructed Khans also some Otmanic Walys (governors) built Khans for different reasons such as gaining profits or to help people at the time of ziyara(visiting the Holy Shrines) . Some Khans were used as post offices or as rest house for soldiers or civilians. One of the Khans that built to help the visitors of the Holy Shrines freely is the Khan of Sayed Noor which combines in its plan both the style of inner and outer Khans .This can lies on the Euphrates so it could be reached from the land and the river as well.
