Abstract

This study investigates one of the phenomena of modern literary criticism in poetry of  Fadwa Toukan. Displacement is a phenomenon that is studied in linguistics and stylistics. It is an artistic technique that poets use to express their emotional experience, and it has an aesthetic role that contributes to drawing the reader's attention and then influencing it and conveying it to the enjoyment and pleasure and conveying the message that the discourse wants. It should be noted that the displacements are divided into several forms, the most prominent of which is the semantic shift that most modern stylistic studies have been interested in and stands for the aesthetics of rhetorical images that inspire tenderness and enjoyment in the reader. Dawi Toukan is one of the contemporary poets who wanted to violate the rules of the ordinary language and revolted against its restrictions. The shift is evident in her poetry through the creativity of strange images that violate the language and its rules, and this breach gave its literary or poetic text. This study seeks to shed light on this phenomenon in Fadawi Toukan's poetry, where it studies the semantic shift represented in the metaphor, simile, symbol and correspondent images in her poetry.

It will become evident to the reader at the end of this article that the poetess has been able to steadily use the semantic shift to create and beautify the poetic image. The result of this study indicates that the poetess Fadoui Toukan has begged with variants of semantic displacement, because of its great importance in building resistance poetry and its artistic beauty. Including: 1 - the poetic image 2 - the avatar 3 - the senses correspond to a departure from the standard. Fadoui Toukan's tendency to semantic displacement and the use of her powerful imagination highlights her imaginative ability to employ the expressive energy inherent in ordinary languages, which deviates from its logic in many cases and breaks into the familiar context
