Indicators of news coverage of the Russian-Ukrainian war on international satellite channels

Abstract

This research deals with the news coverage on the two international Arabic-language channels (the British BBC and the Russian RT) in their news bulletins related to the Russian-Ukrainian war. This research is considered descriptive research that uses the survey method and relies on content analysis of the news in the two channels’ news bulletins and what has been done. It was included in the news bulletins of the British BBC The (security and military aspect) category topped the category for the types of topics in the news bulletins, as well as the types of coverage used in the news bulletins, as it topped the (reporting or recording news coverage) category, and the (conflict frames) category topped the types of news treatment frames for the news bulletins. (Active Forces) in the news bulletins, and the British BBC channel topped the “Government” category in the main category (Active Forces)

in the news bulletins. It also showed us that the types of processing frames were headed by the category (conflict frames) which came in first place with (53) repetitions and a percentage of (46.08%). The analytical study also showed that the main news processing frames (British BBC) regarding the Russian-Ukrainian war, especially the category (conflict frames), as it became clear to us that the category ((Russian bombing of Ukrainian cities) came in first place on the (British BBC) channel, where it reached (11) repetitions and a percentage of (20.75%). It also became clear to us that the category (the impact of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the global economy) came in first place with a repetition of (12) and a percentage of (35.29%).
