Abstract

This research paper examines the identity of an essential component of Iraqi society in a dangerous historical stage of Iraq’s modern history, which is the stage after 2003, and what happened to this component of attacks, displacement and killing, and (Sinan Antoine) was able to reveal to us the hidden in his novel (Ya-Mariam) until in his novel, The identity became productive of meaning, rather it was what justified the movement of narration and the growth of the incidents and of the novel. The novel (Oh Mary) by the Iraqi novelist (Sinan Antoine) represents the theme of terrorism and killing that the Iraqis suffered from after 2003 and the American occupation. It can even be said that the theme of terrorism is the basic theme on which the novel is based. Through the people, events and time space we can infer this, and what happened to minorities in Iraq during that period of time. From here we will address this theme through the tongue of a novelist who belongs to these minorities. Before starting to reveal terrorism and sectarian violence, it is necessary to define the most important concepts included in the novel.

The study of the novel (Ya-Mariam) by the novelist and translator (Sinan Antoine) is based on the theme of religious identity.

Religious identity is what introduces us to the characters, dialogues, events and the narrative space of the text, but through it, we realized the dangerous transformations in the structure of the Iraqi fabric.
