Abstract

The importance of place in modern narrative studies (poetry, prose) is no secret to anyone, as in addition to being one of the most important artistic elements, some have considered it the primary goal of artistic work, especially with regard to Palestinian resistance literature. Place and its problems of possession, loss, alienation, or even the feeling of threatened loss are considered the greatest concern that dominates their lives and thoughts, and thus appears strongly and specifically in their literary productions. Many types of places have emerged in our collection, the subject of study (The Siege of the Praises of the Sea), of which we have dealt with only three types: firstly: the historical cultural place, secondly: the legendary place, and thirdly: the religious place. These places carried broad, distinct and dense connotations, so they were important signs. To convey the idea that Darwish adopted and wanted to convey to his readers. The approach on which the research was based is the semiotic approach, as every place represents a semiotic sign, and it varied between being negative or positive places, and this is what will become clear to us through the investigations.
