Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the effect of using the Literature Circles strategy on the achievement of seventh-grade students in Kurdish literature and the development of their desire to learn. The researcher adopted a quasi-experimental design with two equivalent groups (pre-test and post-test). Group (B) was the experimental group, which received instruction using the Literature Circles strategy and consisted of (30) female students, while group (A) was the control group, consisting of (29) female students who were taught using the traditional method. The two groups were randomly selected from five classes at Kazan School, and a comparison was made between them.

The researcher prepared an achievement test consisting of (30) items: the first question included (20) multiple-choice items, the second question included (5) true/false items, and the third question included (5) essay items withش restricted responses. In addition, developing a desire to learn scale consisting of (32) items were developed. The psychometric properties of both instruments were established. The results showed the following:

  1. There was a statistically significant difference at the level of (0.05) in the achievement of students in Kurdish literature between the mean scores of the experimental group, who studied using the Literature Circles strategy, and the control group, who studied using the traditional method, in favor of the experimental group.
  2. There was a statistically significant difference at the level of (0.05) between the mean scores the development a desire to learn in Kurdish literature among the experimental group and those of the control group, in favor of the experimental group.

The researcher reached several conclusions and presented recommendations for conducting further studies in this field in the future.
