Abstract

This research aims to identify the legal basis of Federal Law No. (1) of 2025 amending the Iraqi Personal Status Law No. (188) of 1959 on the one hand, and on the other hand to review this amending law, which Shiite jurists have been preparing for for more than a century, whether by their categorical rejection of the first attempts made by the Iraqi government since the founding of the Iraqi state to legislate the Iraqi Personal Status Law No. (188) of 1959 and even after it became an applicable law, and to this day. This has clearly appeared in the reasons for this recent amendment issued by the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
