The duality of the familiar and hostile place in Iraqi women's novels From 2003 to 2010 (selected texts)

Abstract

           Place is of great and great importance in the novel text, as it is a large arena and a harmonious incubator, which accommodates all the life activities carried out by the human being, and the relationships between the human being and the place may take on a different dialectical relationship, and thus the place is not without the opposing dualities that it consists of and which are imposed by the geographical nature and the nature of the psychological state and the feelings of the characters who inhabit it, and among those dualities is the duality of the friendly and hostile place, so this research came to study this duality as an analytical tool to know the psychological and social interactions that the place produced in the Iraqi women’s novels and to know how the Iraqi women novelists embodied this duality in light of the changes that Iraq went through, especially in the periods of wars after 2003, occupation, sectarianism and migration, dealing with some selected texts and then starting By analyzing it .

          Hostile spaces have expanded, leading to a decline in familiar places due to changing political, economic, and social conditions and the proliferation of conflicts. The study revealed that the childhood home is not necessarily always the only familiar place, as Bachelard indicated in his definition of a familiar place; its intimacy can vary depending on the surrounding circumstances and the psychological state of the characters. Narratives highlighted a dual perception of place as both nostalgia and fear, making it a vehicle for expressing the internal conflict between the desire for belonging and the fear of loss.
