Abstract

The global fashion industry is undergoing a rapid transformation driven by advances in artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and smart materials science, leading to the emergence of smart textiles as one of the most significant innovations capable of reshaping the relationship between technology and sustainability. Smart textiles are characterized by their ability to respond to environmental and physiological changes through the integration of sensors, intelligent systems, and advanced materials, thereby enhancing product functionality, reducing resource consumption, and minimizing the environmental impacts associated with conventional fashion production. Recognizing the importance of preparing future generations to engage with these technological developments, this study aims to analyze the role of AI-enhanced smart textiles in promoting fashion sustainability while proposing an integrative framework for incorporating these technologies into Home Economics curricula in alignment with the principles of sustainable development and contemporary technology education.

The study adopts a descriptive-analytical approach supported by a critical review of recent literature and related studies. It examines global trends in smart textile development and the applications of artificial intelligence in the design, production, and lifecycle management of textile products. Furthermore, it explores the potential for integrating these concepts into educational curricula. The study proposes a conceptual framework that illustrates mechanisms for incorporating smart textiles, advanced materials, and AI-related content into Home Economics courses, thereby fostering students’ innovative thinking, problem-solving abilities, and environmental awareness.

The findings indicate that integrating these technologies into educational practices can promote responsible consumption and sustainable production while enhancing digital and professional competencies required in future labor markets. However, several challenges remain, including high implementation costs, the need for advanced technological infrastructure, and the necessity of addressing educational and ethical considerations. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of adopting flexible educational policies that encourage innovation and strengthen collaboration between educational institutions and industry sectors, ultimately contributing to the preparation of graduates capable of leading the transition toward a smarter and more sustainable fashion industry.
