Self-assessment and creative personality of students in the Department of Education at the College of Basic Education at the University of Suleimani

Abstract

Self-assessment is the process of evaluating one's own artistic work based on their own criteria and goals. It can be used to enhance students' awareness, understanding, and appreciation of their own artistic process and artistic productions. Furthermore, self-esteem and self-confidence are among the most important characteristics of a creative personality. Therefore, the current study aimed to identify art education students' perceptions of the importance of evaluating their artistic productions and its relationship to the characteristics of a creative personality. The study of creative personality in the field of art education is an important topic, given the interconnected relationships and cognitive ties between psychology and the field of art, which psychologists, educational specialists, and artists have long been studying. The study was limited to the practical art subjects in the art education department, with handcrafts and sculpture as a model.

The research community was represented by students in the Art Education Department, while the research sample was selected from first-year students in the Handicrafts subject and second-year students in the Sculpture subject. In light of the research objectives, the data were statistically processed. The researchers concluded 

- The research sample had a moderate level of interest in self-assessment.

- There were no significant differences between evening and morning shift students in the importance of self-assessment.

- The research sample had a high level of creative personality.

- There was a significant difference between evening and morning shift students in creative personality, in favor of evening shift students.

There was a strong positive correlation between self-assessment and creative personality

    while recommending the necessity of including the topic of self-assessment in the Art Education Department's curricula, they also proposed conducting a study on decision-making and its relationship to self-assessment among Art Education Department students.
