Abstract

Carrying out an investigation of the geographical potentials with the objective of identifying the most appropriate location for industrial development is an essential aspect of land use planning aimed at optimizing the efficient use of land resources. The identification of appropriate locations for industrial activities is one of the most difficult tasks in spatial planning, as it is necessary to reconcile a wide range of different human, physical, economic, and environmental factors, including the location of road networks, land slopes, water resources, soil types, availability of electricity, and geological conditions, among others. The combination of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with the technique of Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA), which encompasses the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the Weighted Overlay method, represents an advanced technique of data analysis that is aimed at supporting precise decision-making. In this study, advanced technologies are utilized in the creation of industrial suitability maps for the Raparin Administration. To reflect the objectives of the study, descriptive method was used to collect data and information about the study area, then through statistical method the relationship between geographical capabilities and land use patterns determined in the study area.

The administrative boundary of the research area starts from the east borders with Iran, in the north with the districts (Choman and Ruandz) in Erbil province, in the northwest with the two districts (Khalifan and Shaqlawa) in Erbil province It is bordered by Dukan Lake in Sulaimani Province to the south.
