This study addresses the issue of conflict in academic settings, including universities, institutes and research centers, considering it as an inevitable phenomenon that naturally arises within the complex web of relationships among various members of these settings. Conflict emerges as a result of continuous daily interactions among individuals, stemming from differences in their perspectives, opinions, ideas and interests. The study aims to clarify the concept of conflict in academic settings by reviewing the ideas and viewpoints presented by researchers and academic practitioners, in order to reach a comprehensive understanding of conflict in general, and of academic conflict in particular, along with its multiple implications within university contexts. Furthermore, the study seeks to identify and analyze the different levels of conflict in academic settings whether interpersonal, intragroup or intergroup by exploring their characteristics and significance in the context of higher education. Finally, the study highlights the main causes of conflict in academic settings, which vary between personal factors, related to individual psychological traits and differing attitudes and behaviors; structural factors, associated with management styles, inequitable distribution of tasks and resources, and poor planning within institutional systems; and cultural factors, linked to diversity in ethnicity and nationality. The structure of the study will include two sections in addition to the introduction and conclusion. In the first section, we will discuss the concept of conflict, and in the second section, we will address the nature of conflict in academic environments.
