The study examines the development of relations between Cyprus and the Soviet Union (and later Russia) during the period from 1975 to 2013, by analyzing the political, economic, and cultural dimensions of these relations and their impact on regional balances in the Mediterranean. Cypriot-Soviet (and later Russian) relations are considered an important part of the regional balances in the Mediterranean region.
The Mediterranean. These relations offer important lessons in understanding how major powers influence regional conflicts and political struggles. Cyprus was a strategic pivot point in the East-West struggle, and therefore the support of the Soviet Union in the past, and later Russia, had a significant impact in maintaining balance in the region.

I conclude that Cypriot-Soviet/Russian relations had a profound impact on regional balances in the Mediterranean.
