Abstract

Most of those stateless people who live abroad and in the diaspora, as a social organized community, gather periodically and carry out all kinds of activities. In times of need and national emergency, they convey their demands through demonstrations and civil activities, spreading their political message to countries and raising public awareness in Europe. Southern Kurds of Kurdistan played a clear and visible role in conveying their national message. From the beginning of their migration to Europe, through their work and engagement with life, they introduced their national concern, commitment, and identity to the countries where they settled. They actively and organizedly sought lobbying and support for the Kurdish issue and introduced Kurdish history and culture to European countries.

This research, titled “The Role of Civic Activities of the Southern Kurdish Diaspora in Introducing the Kurdish Issue in Europe 1975-1991,” focuses on the most important work and activities performed by the Southern Kurdish diaspora. It examines all the diverse civil activities aimed at introducing the Kurdish issue and lobbying for Kurdish national rights. The study is structured into three main chapters: first, introducing and explaining the concept of diaspora; second, discussing protests and enlightenment activities carried out by the Southern Kurdish diaspora. The research uses various sources such as documents, memoirs, and records of the Kurdish diaspora and relies on a scientific historical method to arrive at new and specific findings.
