Kamil al-Chadirchi (1897-1968) was one of the most prominent democratic intellectuals and politicians in Iraq. He joined the Kurdish movement, believing that the rights of the Kurds, like all Iraqi components, should be constitutionally recognized. He advocated for a federal Iraq where the Kurds would have a constitutionally recognized entity and self-rule, within the framework of a single Iraqi state. He strongly opposed the policies of successive Iraqi governments regarding the Kurdish issue. After the establishment of the National Democratic Party in 1946, his policies became clearer towards the Kurdish issue, demanding that the rights of the Kurdish people be preserved through constitutional and legal means. During Kamil al-Chadirchi's era, the Kurdish struggle was considered one of the main pillars, as he believed that a federal constitution and a decentralized policy, while maintaining the unity of the Iraqi state, were the cornerstone for building a democratic and just state in Iraq.
