Abstract

This study examines the spatial and demographic patterns of marriage and divorce in the governorates of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and explores the realities of marriage and divorce cases within them. The importance of this study lies in the scarcity of research addressing these two phenomena, despite their significant role in the social fabric. The study aims to find solutions to mitigate the increasing phenomenon of divorce, as a noticeable rise in divorce rates was observed during the study period due to various factors, including social and economic ones.  This study employs a descriptive-analytical approach, utilizing statistical analysis of data related to these two phenomena. To achieve its objectives, the study is divided into three main sections:

The first section addresses the conceptual and terminological framework of marriage and divorce, and reviews the geographical characteristics of the study area. The second section focuses on analyzing the reality of marriage and divorce cases in the governorates of the region during the period (2009-2023). The third section aims to analyze the spatial distribution of marriage procedures and the phenomenon of divorce among the governorates, based on official data issued by the Judicial Council of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
