Abstract

Scholarly research titled "History in Vigo's view and its influence on Herder's thought" discusses the Italian philosopher Vigo's perspectives on history, as well as the impact and reflection of those perspectives on the German philosopher Herder. One of the most important thinkers is Vigo, who is regarded as the creator and father of modern philosophy of history. It is clear that this philosopher had an impact on Western philosophers, particularly in the opinions of Herder. I've been interested in the dearth of research in academic institutions, particularly on Herder, as part of my doctoral thesis.

The approach (analysis and comparison) was employed in order to accomplish the objective of the research, which is to demonstrate the philosophical opinions and theses of the two philosophers as well as Vigo's influence on Heder and take into account the similarities between what they wrote. Vico's perspective on history is the primary focus of the first chapter, which starts with a critique of Descartes' historical philosophy. The second chapter centers on Herder's introduction to Vico via two of his best friends, Goethe and Hamann. We have highlighted the impact of Vico's philosophical ideas on Herder in the areas of mythology, language, the doctrine of divine care, etc. in the final chapter.

By analyzing the literature, we determined that both philosophers considered myth as an essential starting point for comprehending human history and that we cannot properly comprehend history if we lack an understanding of this crucial period of human history.

For this reason, they saw language as a vital tool for understanding the era. Herder used German, while Vico used Latin.

From an ethnological perspective of argument, both scholars related the stages of human history to the stages of human development.

Due to their religious upbringing and background, both philosophers were aware of divine oversight throughout history.
