Supplication – Sin – Sahifa al-SajjadiyyaAbstract
This research examines the concept of confession of sin as a central doctrinal and spiritual value in Islam, studying its profound application in Al-Sahifa Al-Sajjadiyya of Imam Ali ibn Al-Husayn Zayn Al-Abidin (peace be upon him). The study considers its doctrinal significance, educational dimension, and critical analysis of the discourse. It begins by defining sin linguistically and technically. Linguistically, it refers to any act deserving of blame and reproach, while scholars define it technically as falling short in one's duty to God and disobeying Him. Confession of sin, then, is the conscious acknowledgment of shortcoming and is the first step towards repentance, as established by the Holy Quran. This highlights the importance of recognizing one's error and not despairing of God's forgiveness.
The research demonstrates that Al-Sahifa Al-Sajjadiyya presents a comprehensive doctrinal model for confession of sin, combining submission to God with hope in His mercy. It transforms confession from a sentimental feeling into an educational and spiritual methodology that purifies the soul and teaches humility and self-accountability. The research reveals the effectiveness of the persuasive discourse in the Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya through repetition, specificity, and stylistic devices, which motivate the recipient to practically apply the doctrinal values.
The research concludes that the confession of sin in the Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya constitutes a comprehensive doctrinal and educational approach, combining repentance, self-awareness, and hope in God's mercy. It transforms the moment of confession into a starting point for moral and spiritual reform. The research concludes with recommendations, the most important of which is that the concepts of confession of sin found in the Sahifa al-Sajjadiyya should be employed as an educational tool to enhance self-awareness and practical behavior, and to link faith with good deeds in the lives of individuals and society.
