Abstract

This study investigates how "thematic meaning" is expressed and analyzed in television news headlines, relying on the mechanism of "ordering of elements." Additionally, it attempts to describe the relationship between grammatical structures and the changes that occur in word order. It also demonstrates how altering the position of an element through mechanisms such as (fronting, postponement, scrambling, deletion, passive voice, contrast, and cleft construction) affects both the meaning and the recipient's attention.

To achieve specific objectives, the study adopts a descriptive-analytical-statistical methodology. The practical data of the study consists of the analysis of (45) television headlines from (Duhok TV), broadcast during the 2024 Kurdistan Parliamentary elections. The study reached several findings, showing that grammatical formulation and the disruption of normal word order alter the thematic meaning. Furthermore, two mechanisms (fronting and scrambling) were used more frequently in the headlines compared to other mechanisms, thereby driving the shift in thematic meaning.
