Self-disclosure and its relationship to existential intelligence among university students

Abstract

The current research aims to identify the level of self-disclosure and the level of existential intelligence among university students, and the differences in the level of each according to the gender variable (males - females), in addition to the relationship between self-disclosure and existential intelligence among the sample students. To achieve the research objectives, the researcher adopted the scale (Suleiman, 2023) to measure self-disclosure, and the psychometric properties of the scale were verified. The researcher also constructed a scale for existential intelligence. The research sample consisted of 120 male and female students, randomly selected from third-year students at the Colleges of Al-Hamdaniya University. The reliability for both scales was calculated using the test-retest method, yielding values of 0.84 and 0.87 respectively for the scales. Suitable statistical methods were adopted in accordance with the methodology and objectives of the research (Pearson correlation coefficient, one-sample t-test, independent two-sample t-test) using the SPSS statistical program. The results of the research indicated that the level of self-disclosure among the sample members was good, and the level of existential intelligence showed no significant differences based on the gender variable (male - female), with a positive correlation between the research variables.
