Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze parents' attitudes towards female education in the local community. The research relied on a descriptive analytical methodology using field interviews as the main tool for collecting data from a sample of parents in Baghdad.

The results of the study showed that most parents consider female education important, but there is a significant disparity in this view based on some factors. Parents with higher education showed greater support for their daughters' education compared to parents with limited education, as they showed greater appreciation for the importance of female education in improving the status of the family and society. In contrast, in some families with traditional cultural backgrounds, there was a preference for educating males..

Social and economic factors also played a major role in shaping parents’ opinions. In low-income families, parents tended to prefer educating male children, considering them less important economically in the future..

In conclusion, it was found that parents in general are aware of the importance of educating females, but cultural and economic factors may limit this support in some cases. The study recommends that parents should be educated and provided with government support to encourage them to educate their daughters and overcome traditional barriers.
