Abstract

Constitutional oversight is an essential part of the Iraqi political system, as it aims to ensure compliance with laws and protect citizens' rights. Therefore, the research aimed to shed light on the special role of constitutional oversight in achieving national security in Iraq. The descriptive analytical approach was relied upon. The research concluded that oversight was approved by the legal legislator, as it is an important guarantee to prevent the tyranny of parliament and an important means to ensure freedom. It contributes to the development and implementation of policies related to national security, in preparing the necessary plans and programs to enhance security and stability in the country. Therefore, constitutional oversight in Iraq plays a vital role in achieving national security by monitoring the authorities and ensuring compliance with laws and constitutional principles. Accordingly, the study recommends the necessity of activating the role of laws in achieving constitutional oversight to achieve national security in Iraq.

Iraqi constitutions, both during the monarchy and republican eras, included efforts to regulate constitutional oversight and establish the foundations and principles that guarantee the principle of constitutional supremacy, to prevent infringement on individual rights and ensure their protection. The formulation and implementation of national security policies contributes to the development of plans and programs necessary to enhance security and stability in the country.
