The study of Orientalists has occupied a significant place in the interests of researchers, historians, and scholars. The works of these Orientalists have been diverse in scope, encompassing studies of the Holy Qur’an, the Prophetic biography (Sīrah), the Rightly Guided Caliphate, and Arab-Islamic civilization in general. These studies can be classified into several categories, reflecting the diversity of their authors’ methodologies, ideas, backgrounds, nationalities, and personal inclinations. Some of these works bear no relation to truth, being filled with distortion, bias, and unfounded allegations, often shaped by preconceived assumptions imposed on the methodologies employed in their scholarly writings.
In contrast, other studies are genuinely scientific in nature, with their authors seeking truth and striving to obtain reliable academic material driven by intellectual curiosity and scholarly integrity. Such scholars adhere to rigorous scientific methodologies characterized by precision and caution; at times they may err, while at other times they reach valid conclusions upon which they build their Orientalist studies. A further category comprises works that consistently adhere to sound scientific methods and fairness in verifying accurate information from authentic and reliable primary sources.
Notably, some authors of these works embraced Islam after critically examining these studies and pursuing the truth. They came to recognize this truth in Islam, its Prophet, and his companions, and thus joined the ranks of Muslims, defending its values, beliefs, and civilization. As a result, they faced severe hostility and rejection from their fellow Orientalists for speaking the truth. For them, the truth marked the beginning of a transition from darkness to light. These individuals constitute the core focus of this research.
