Abstract

The study aimed to identify the social and economic determinants affecting juvenile delinquency in the city of Kirkuk, and to assess their impact on the spread of the phenomenon. To achieve the study's objectives, the descriptive analytical method was adopted. Using a social survey with a sample similar to a stratified random sample of the local population, consisting of 66 respondents, data were collected on the social and economic factors associated with delinquent behaviors. The study results showed that the most influential social factors on juvenile delinquency include the prevalence of social norms and customs, low educational levels, the spread of violence in the social environment, long periods of leisure time, incorrect family upbringing methods, and the influence of the media. Economic factors included low family income, high unemployment rates, weak economic growth, difficulty in meeting living requirements, family members' conflict over inheritance, and the spread of illegal activities. These factors have been shown to contribute significantly to the high rates of juvenile delinquency. The results confirm the close relationship between socioeconomic factors and delinquent behaviors, highlighting the importance of adopting preventive and developmental policies to improve the living conditions of families and enhance awareness and guidance programs for juveniles, with the aim of reducing the exacerbation of the phenomenon.
