Abstract

This thesis investigates the grammatical views of the grammarian Abu Ishaq Ibrahim Ibn Al-Sarri Al-Zajjaj (d. 311 AH) as reflected in the works of Makki Ibn Talib Al-Qaysi (d. 437 AH) This grammatical thought comprises two chapters, preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion. The introduction includes an introduction to the authors and a statement of Al-Zajjaj's influence on grammatical and Quranic studies. The first chapter covers Makki ibn Abi Talib Al-Qaysi and his influence on Al-Zajjaj's grammar and readings. The second chapter covers Al-Zajjaj's grammatical position on Makki Al-Qaysi's works on raised nouns. The conclusion summarizes the key findings of the study, such as the ways in which Makki Al-Qaysi conveyed Al-Zajjaj’s positions, and how the first employed both direct and indirect transmission methods, at times quoting Al-Zajjaj explicitly, and at other times omitting or adding to his statements. Makki Al-Qaysi was notably influenced by Al-Zajjaj, particularly in terms of grammatical terminology, the use of grammatical evidence, and his engagement with various grammatical issues, this influence extended to Quranic examples and grammatical components related to nouns, verbs, and letters, the relationship between grammatical rules and Quranic recitations, the intersection of logic and grammar, the stylistic analysis of Quranic expressions, and the detailed discussion of grammatical topics. The researcher also demonstrates that Makki Al-Qaysi at times expressed independent views, departing from Al-Zajjaj’s positions and modifying certain texts that conflicted with his own grammatical beliefs and ideas.
