Abstract

The current research aims to identify the effect of using the Idea Gardens strategy on the development of historical empathy among middle school students in history. The researchers relied on the experimental method with two equal groups. The research sample included 42 students from two classes, randomly selected from Mazar Middle School students. Class A was chosen to be the experimental group, numbering 22 students who studied according to the Idea Gardens strategy, while the control group, Class B, numbered 20 students who studied according to the traditional method. They were selected from the research community of eleventh-grade students in government daytime middle schools for boys in the center of Duhok Governorate for the academic year (2024-2025). They were then distributed into two equal groups in the following variables: chronological age, intelligence, and degrees of tribal historical empathy The researchers prepared a test for the historical empathy scale prepared by Haji (2013), which consists of 40 four-alternative items. The researchers confirmed the validity and reliability and used the Krudich alpha equation, and the reliability rate reached 83%, as well as the psychometric properties of the test. After completing the experiment, the researchers applied the test to the members of the two groups, then analyzed the data using appropriate statistical methods. The results indicated:

There is a statistically significant difference at the level of (0.05) between the average scores of the pre- and post-developments of historical empathy for the students in the two groups, in favor of the members of the experimental group.
