Abstract

This research aims to analyze the phenomena of (entrainment) and (postponement of meaning) as two profound rhetorical and artistic features in the poetry of Abu Tayeb Al-Mutanabbi, and to reveal their effects on the structure of the poem and the reader’s reception of meaning. The research is based on the hypothesis that Al-Mutanabbi was not satisfied with presenting the meaning directly, but rather employed rhetorical mechanisms that contribute to building the meaning gradually, and postpone its full arrival to the recipient, which deepens the aesthetic and semantic impact of his poems and stimulates thought.

To reveal these mechanisms or techniques, a group of verses that reflect this style are analyzed, and how Al-Mutanabbi uses these techniques in his poetry is shown, by focusing on how to construct and postpone meanings to produce certain effects on the reader. The research also addresses the impact of this style on understanding poetic texts, and how it contributed to creating a state of semantic tension, which would enhance the reader’s appreciation of the aesthetic dimensions and The artistry of Al-Mutanabbi's poetry encourages a deeper reading and more accurate analysis of poetic texts. This research is a step towards a deeper understanding of poetic language and how it affects the recipient.

The research relied on the descriptive analytical approach, through the extrapolation of a number of Al-Mutanabbi’s poems in which the phenomena of enticement and postponement of meaning are prominent, and the selected texts are analyzed according to the rhetorical and critical concepts related to the methods that contribute to the gradual construction of meaning and its postponement. The research consisted of an introduction, two chapters, a conclusion, and a list of sources and references. The first chapter included a study of the concept of enticement and postponement of meaning, its concept, Its synonyms, importance, purposes, and methods, while the second section included the practical aspect.
