Social networks are one of the most important mechanisms for shaping and directing public opinion nowadays for the services they provide, they have made a significant difference in communication, they offered a gateway for every single member in the community to express their own opinions via this electronic space, interacting with various issues in their surrounding environment. From this point of view, as the importance and sensitivity of this phenomenon, we conducted this research entitled, The Role of social networks in the formation and direction of public opinion, it is analytical theoretical research, the main goal of the research is to present the role of social networks in shaping and directing public opinion. It means the extent of social networks influence on formation and direction of public opinion. We have identified several objectives, these are: presenting the nature and characteristics of social networks, Explaining the constituent categories of public opinion in the Kurdistan Region, finding the links between social networks and public opinion in the Kurdistan Region, The research method is the descriptive analytical method. At the end of this research, we reached the main conclusions that social networks have the ability to shape and direct public opinion. For several reasons, these are: the existence of the system and particular algorithm that display specific information according to user preferences, the dissemination of information and news in a short time, the ability to gather the opinions of similar social groups, using public figures to influence the opinions of millions, offering equal opportunities for all members of society. Measuring public opinion instantly and directly. This study attempts to fill this scientific gap and to investigate the role of social networks in shaping and directing public opinion in the Kurdistan Region. Using scientific methods and objective analysis, this study aims to provide a comprehensive picture of this phenomenon and make an important contribution to our understanding of the impact of new communication technologies in Kurdish society
