Abstract

The current research aimed to identify the effectiveness of theatrical drama in improving the communication and social interaction skills of children with autism spectrum disorder. The study sample consisted of (8) children with autism spectrum disorder, aged between (7-8) years, and a scale was used. Gilliam (GARS 3, 2022) to diagnose their disorder, and a measure of communication and social interaction skills was prepared by the researcher. One experimental group was used, and the pre- and post-test was administered using the theatrical drama program. The results proved that there were statistically significant differences between the average scores of the children of the experimental group in Pre- and post-measurement on the communication skills and social interaction scale and its dimensions (verbal communication, non-verbal communication, social interaction) in the direction of the post-measurement.

Focusing on developing verbal and nonverbal communication skills, along with social interaction skills, in children with autism spectrum disorder through drama. Focusing on using drama with children with special needs in general, and children with autism spectrum disorder in particular, to address their needs and enhance their development in various areas.
