This study critically examines King Abdullah II’s peace rhetoric through a discourse analysis of four selected speeches delivered between 2018 and 2025. Using Chilton’s (2004) sociocognitive model of political discourse, the research investigates how lexical, grammatical, and metaphorical strategies construct ideologies of peace, justice, and coexistence. The analysis highlights four key linguistic devices: inclusive pronouns, metaphors, emotive lexicon, and modality markers. Inclusive pronouns such as we consistently establish solidarity and collective identity, while adversarial pronouns strategically delineate ideological outsiders. Metaphors of journeys, bridges, twins, and keys frame peace as both sacred and achievable, anchoring political claims in cultural and spiritual legitimacy. Emotive terms emphasize suffering, duty, resilience, and hope, reinforcing Jordan’s custodial role and humanitarian appeals. Modality markers, particularly deontic forms (must, should), present peace not as optional but as an urgent moral imperative. Findings reveal both continuity and adaptability in the King’s rhetoric. While the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem remain constant anchors, shifts occur depending on audience orientation. At regional and Islamic forums, rhetoric emphasized Arab-Islamic unity and custodianship; at global platforms, it foregrounded humanitarian solidarity and inclusivity, downplaying adversarial framing. This adaptability confirms the performative role of discourse in addressing multiple audiences simultaneously. The study concludes that King Abdullah II’s rhetoric linguistically positions Jordan as mediator, custodian, and moral authority, offering a vision of peace rooted in shared values and collective responsibility. This research contributes to understanding how political leaders use discourse to construct and sustain ideologies of hope and coexistence.
