الملخص

In this study, we examine Mehmet Haşim Salihi’s play Our Village, translating the text into Türkiye Turkish while preserving its original form. Through this rural village-themed theatrical work, the research explores how relations of capital and power transform social structures. The play particularly centers around the arrival of a wealthy character, the “Bey,” and the resulting class tensions, social silence, forms of resistance, and discourses of development, all of which are analyzed within this context. Character analyses are conducted alongside thematic readings, offering a critical perspective on the socio-economic transformations taking place in rural settings.

Salihi’s Our Village is a locally rooted play written in the vernacular, reflecting the condition and lives of villagers. In the course of this study, direct interviews were conducted with the author, who shared both literary insights and background information. The play is divided into two acts: the first act consists of four scenes, while the second act contains one. Themes of optimism and pessimism are conveyed through the characters’ dialogues and the subjects they address. In doing so, the villagers’ behavior in various situations is depicted, highlighting their heroism. Moreover, the work emphasizes how deeply the villagers cherish their homeland and nation, maintain their traditions, and preserve their sovereignty. This study focuses on the first act of the play, in which the dramatic structure stages power relations in a rural setting. Within this framework, character analyses are conducted alongside a thematic exploration.
