Abstract

This study examines the geomorphological evaluation of the landforms of the Dashtakh Valley basin, located in the Zakho district of Duhok Governorate. The study area lies between longitudes 42°43'55" and 42°49'46" East and latitudes 37°18'54" and 37°22'59" North.

The study focuses on the fundamental concepts of environmental geomorphology, which explain the relationship between humans and their environment. This relationship is based on the principle of land classification, which reflects a diverse spatial picture and illustrates the equilibrium in geomorphic processes. These processes lead to the formation of constructive and destructive land units, resulting in areas that are either attractive or uninhabitable for settlement.

The study employs a quantitative analysis approach, specifically landform analysis using the ITC (Information Technology Coding System). It begins by explaining the concept of landform and then discusses the technologies used, namely Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS). The study was organized into three sections. The first section included the natural factors that shape the landform, including structure, climate, topography characteristics, and analysis of land slopes and soil. The second section was an analysis of morphometric processes, while the third section dealt with an evaluation of the landform, which was based on two premises: first, environmental risks, and second, land suitability and suitability. Finally, we arrived at the results and proposals with which the study was concluded.
