The Influence of the Southern Environment on Contemporary Iraqi Painting

Research Summary:

The environment is the place where a person lives, dies, and engages in various activities, which in turn inevitably influences his public and private behavior. Public behavior, in its broadest sense, is behavior directed toward others, such as cooperating with them in various matters. In rural communities, this is characterized by complete cooperation, intimacy, love, social bonds, and cooperation in completing tasks, such as building a home for a specific individual, harvesting crops, and social events such as weddings and funerals, or in the event of natural disasters such as floods and fires. Private behavior, on the other hand, relates to the individual's numerous activities through which he attempts to overcome any influences that might cause him a dilemma, or he attempts to harness its elements to serve him. The environment in Iraq is diverse, and this means a variety of environmental influences on the personality of the Iraqi individual. There are mountainous and desert environments, wetlands, and marshes. Therefore, this diversity is reflected in the social structure, the nature of life, and the individual's connection to his environment. [The Iraqi environment that the artist represents in his paintings is full of life. Although they are a rendition of what is represented in Iraqi nature with its golden sands, red mountains, rivers, palm trees, and marshes... the artist adds to it popular heritage with clever captures of rural atmospheres, the nights of the old alleys, the marshlands and their reeds, and their colors brimming with realism. The Iraqi artist has succeeded in reformulating realistic forms with new styles and techniques. As is well known, most artistic movements that dealt with realistic forms or were influenced by them have been described as realist.] In this research, I will address the influence of the southern environment on the production of Iraqi painters after 2003, through the close connection between the environment and the artist that the artwork contains. The research, after the introduction to the research, its problem, objectives, and boundaries, will include four chapters. The first chapter will address the concept of the environment and its impact on visual art. The second chapter will cover works in contemporary Iraqi painting after 2003. The third chapter will cover the research procedures. The fourth chapter will cover the results, conclusions, recommendations, and a conclusion.
