Spatial statistical analysis of fuel stations in Samawah city 2024 (cartographic study)

This study addresses the spatial and statistical analysis of fuel filling stations in the city of Samawah, considering them one of the main components of urban infrastructure. These stations represent an effective element in residents’ daily lives and in transportation movement within the city of Samawah. The research relied on modern techniques, particularly Geographic Information Systems (GIS), due to the high accuracy of outputs provided by this technology in spatial analysis and its ability to link spatial and statistical data, with the aim of reaching results that contribute to improving the urban planning process in the city.
The city contains approximately seven fuel filling stations, five of which are government-owned and two privately owned. The study analyzed their spatial distribution and the extent of its conformity with planning standards and safety requirements, as well as their level of coverage in serving residential neighborhoods within the city. The results showed that some stations are located in areas that do not comply with safety requirements due to their proximity to residential clusters. The findings also revealed a clear concentration of fuel stations in the city center and areas close to main roads, compared to their scarcity or absence in the peripheral areas, indicating a lack of balance in distribution.
The study recommends the adoption of spatial analysis as a fundamental tool in future planning of fuel station locations to ensure efficiency, spatial equity, public safety, and an optimal distribution of services that reduces environmental and traffic-related problems.
