The Efficiency of Drinking Water Use and its Role in promoting Urban Sustainability in the City of Rawa

This study analyzes the efficiency of drinking water use in the city of Rawa and examines its role in promoting urban sustainability in light of the growing water challenges facing cities located in arid and semi-arid regions. The findings indicate that Rawa relies primarily on the Euphrates River as the main source of water supply, rendering the city vulnerable to fluctuations in river discharge and potential instability in future water availability, The results also show that population growth and urban expansion have significantly increased the demand for water resources. Although the theoretical production capacity of water treatment plants is sufficient to meet the population’s water requirements, the limited actual operating hours reduce the overall efficiency of water supply utilization Moreover, the analysis reveals that domestic consumption accounts for the largest share of total water use in the city, while other sectors represent relatively smaller proportions. Laboratory analyses further confirm that the quality of drinking water falls within the permissible health standards, indicating a relatively efficient performance of treatment and purification processes In conclusion, the study emphasizes that enhancing the efficiency of water resource management, promoting a culture of water conservation, and modernizing water infrastructure constitute essential pillars for strengthening urban sustainability and ensuring the long-term availability and security of water resources in the city of Rawa.
