Abstract

This research، titled "The Image of Seljuk Sultans and Kings in Ibn Khallikan’s (d. 681 AH / 1282 AD) Wafayat al-Ayan wa-Anba Abna al-Zaman،" seeks to elucidate the political and cultural role of the Seljuk State through the lens of Ibn Khallikan . It highlights the prominent military، administrative، and cultural contributions of these monarchs to Islamic civilization. The study investigates the biographies and experiences of Seljuk rulers as chronicled by Ibn Khallikan، underscoring the book's historical significance in documenting events related to the Turkic element. The research is structured into three main chapters: the first examines the author's life and his historiographical methodology; the second analyzes the depiction of the Great Seljuk sultans; and the third explores the portrayal of other Seljuk sultans and kings who ruled various regions as presented in the text. The study concludes with a summary of the most significant findings، followed by a list of primary sources and references. In this study, the researcher adopted the descriptive-analytical historical method, reviewing primary data derived from original sources and scientifically analyzing and evaluating it to clarify the image and lives of the Seljuk sultans and kings.

Despite the numerous and varied studies that have addressed the Seljuks and their rule under the Abbasid Caliphate, as well as the nature of the relationship between the Abbasid caliphs and the Seljuk kings, this research—to the best of our knowledge—is the first to bear the title: "The Image of the Seljuk Sultans and Kings in Ibn Khallikan's 'Wafayat al-A'yan wa Anba' Abna' al-Zaman' (d. 681 AH/1282 CE)."
