This study aims to examine the role of Iraqi diplomacy in addressing regional crises within a complex and unstable political environment. Due to its strategic location and historical context, Iraq has consistently been at the center of regional interactions, making it vulnerable to multifaceted crises ranging from border disputes and security challenges linked to terrorism to economic and water-related issues.
The research focuses on how Iraqi diplomacy has navigated these challenges and the mechanisms it has employed to achieve balanced solutions that protect national interests while contributing to regional stability. It provides an in-depth analytical perspective on Iraqi diplomacy as a primary tool for crisis management, highlighting both its achievements and its limitations in light of surrounding political, social, and economic conditions. The study seeks to offer insights into the strategies and approaches that have enabled Iraq to engage constructively with neighboring countries and international actors, thereby underlining the critical importance of diplomatic practice in preserving state sovereignty and promoting regional stability. Despite the formidable challenges Iraq has faced both internally and externally, Iraqi diplomacy has played a significant role in addressing regional crises by adopting policies based on dialogue and a balance between different powers. However, its effectiveness remains sometimes limited due to internal weaknesses and external pressures.
This research will employ a descriptive-analytical approach, which includes: describing the regional crises Iraq has experienced and identifying their contexts; analyzing the diplomatic tools Iraq has used to manage these crises, such as negotiation, mediation, and alliance-building; evaluating the results achieved through these tools and their impact on internal and regional stability; and comparing the Iraqi experience with those of other regional countries to highlight the unique characteristics of the Iraqi situation.
