Allah Almighty has exalted the status of the Holy Qur’an and endowed it with countless forms of wisdom, eloquence, and rhetorical beauty that no human intellect can imitate. He revealed it through the tongue of His noble Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, the unlettered and trustworthy Messenger, and made it an everlasting proof of his prophethood.
This research aims to shed light on some rhetorical aspects and miraculous features of the Holy Qur’an, particularly within the linguistic and rhetorical dimension, which has long been a field of challenge and contemplation for scholars and researchers. Indeed, the Qur’an in its entirety is miraculous in wording, meaning, structure, and guidance.
Before discussing the rhetorical aspects found in Surah Al-Ahzab, it is important to clarify the meaning of the title. The term “wajh” (aspect) in Arabic refers to intention, direction, or the intended purpose of something. As for rhetoric (balaghah), it is defined as the ability to express meanings in the most suitable and effective manner, whether through brevity without deficiency or elaboration without redundancy. Al-Jahiz described eloquent speech as language in which wording and meaning are perfectly harmonious, so that the expression reaches the listener’s heart with clarity and impact.
Therefore, this study examines the rhetorical aspects in Surah Al-Ahzab through various manifestations of conciseness and elaboration, highlighting the artistic and linguistic beauty of the Qur’anic discourse. The significance of this topic lies in revealing one of the many dimensions of Qur’anic eloquence and demonstrating a facet of its miraculous nature and divine perfection.
The research consists of an introduction in which the terminology of the title has been clarified in order to define the scope of the topic and explain its intended meaning, thereby making it easier for the reader to understand. It also includes a preface explaining the possible overlap that may occur when examining certain rhetorical forms whose expressions may indicate more than one rhetorical meaning, due to subtle distinctions recognized by specialists in the art of rhetoric.
