Abstract

A abstract: This research deals with the spread of the fashion of tattooing on the body among adolescents in Iraqi society and the damages that it can cause in an attempt to know the reasons that led to the spread of this fashion. The research aims to cover this topic because it is considered one of the means of communication through the body, and also to identify its main source, as well as to know the reasons that make adolescents tend to put it on the body, as the researcher used the survey method based on the questionnaire tool (electronic questionnaire) to collect data and information that serve the research and consisting of (twelve questions) distributed to a sample of (one hundred) individuals from adolescents in (the center of Nasiriya city). Our research consisted of four topics, the first of which dealt with the methodological framework, which is represented by the research problem, importance, objectives, sample, research methodology, temporal and spatial boundaries, research procedures, research terms, previous studies, commentary on studies, while the second dealt with the theoretical framework, tattoos, their history and origin of the word, their types, functions, and causes.  The third part was a practical study, and the last part included appendices and sources. The most important findings of the research included the impact of tattoos on good relationships with family and friends, the embarrassment they cause in public places, the cost of applying them can be relatively high, and they also cause skin diseases and health damage, feelings of remorse, and psychological deterioration. The most important recommendations of the research are that educational and family supervision must be intensified by parents, and they must be educated about the health, psychological, and social risks and effects. Officials in the Media Authority and positive influencers on social media must adopt the production of awareness content directed at this group about the harms and risks it causes, and intensify supervision of unlicensed centers and salons, especially those that do not follow health procedures and target minors.
